Month Four

Dear Canaan,

Welcome to month four my sweet baby boy. You have done so much this month! You have started a regular nap schedule (really this is Mom's accomplishment for your benefit - adding in more structure for your day), you started playing with toys (your current favorite is the scrunchy counting book) and... you LAUGH! It's truely the best sound on earth. We've heard a few sleepy chuckles before, but in the last week or so you've laughed in reaction to things you find funny (usually a silly voice or tickling your belly - which Dad does the best).

I just laid you down for another nap... which is preceeded by about two minutes of walking you around the nursery with the sound machine on and the lights down low. I'm careful not to make eye contact with you (like you're a sleepy wildabeast... :) it's an instant way to get you out of the sleepy mood) and so instead I close my eyes or look around your room. This time I took notice of your open closet - full of tiny clothes on tiny hangers... and started thinking again (a pretty common occurance these days) about how blessed your Dad and I are. We have a closet full of little clothes that we're using. For you... here safe and healthy and dozing off in my arms. I think of all the answered prayers bringing us to this place. Being able to be pregnant with you in the first place... getting through bedrest and the strong threat of a very early delivery and a very sick baby... getting through an intense birth where you were again at risk... I can't wait to tell you all about the people who love you and prayed for you and the God who answered our prayers! :)
